We all covet rare and amazing cars. But a car like a Toyota 2000GT might as well be Speed Racer’s Mach 5 for all of the reality it has.
We have all seen kit car disasters and Fierarris.
But there are a lot of high end Cobra and other replicas that, while expensive, make ownership of an impossibly rare car a reality.
A friend of mine has one of these. It is fucking amazing and I keep begging him to bring it to C&C.
But what high end kit or replica cars would you want to own?
Bonus: Does Oppo oyster?
I do.

I don’t have to bother with any of that, I’m told if I put an M badge on the back of my 328i, it turns into an M3.

I was at a car show last summer and talked with a guy who brought his Kirkham Cobra to show. The aluminum body was bare, with scratches all around but he didn’t care. (maybe he was after the patina look?) It had a 427 side-oiler stroker, and I imagine he had probably close to $150k in the car. And here I am hoping to pull together the dough for a Factory Five kit someday..

I’d actually rather have this than the real thing.

There are only two cars I’d ever buy as replicas: the 2000GT and Cobra. Those oysters look delicious!

But then you would have to find another 3 to avoid putting too many miles on your second M. Lather, rinse, repeat.

As long as it looks the part and is similar performance wise, why not? It’s my only shot to own something Cobra-esque, for example (Or a Porsche 917, GT40, Daytona, Deuce coupe, Stratos). Hell, I’d take an Audi Coupe GT with an engine and driveline swap if I couldn’t find/afford a real ur-Quattro.

I was following a car full of bro-20-somethings in town today. They floored it away from every stop sign....

Luckily for me, as as quirky fan of odd, slow, “People’s Cars” most of the ones I want aren’t all that hard to get or expensive..... :P
Can’t say I would mind having a Stratos kit car with an Alfa engine though....

Did it look like this?
(My car with the badge put on with packing tape for the explicit purpose of taking this picture. I have an M car, I don’t need to go around pretending.)

I would if it was based on an incredibly valuable classic, and it’d be a case where I’m wealthy enough to get a very nice custom replica but not wealthy enough to own the actual classic. Example: would love a 250 GTO based on a modern chassis and a modern drivetrain, but with the classic looks. I’d be absolutely terrified of driving a genuine 250 GTO because of its value.
Also, I do oyster. I love oysters, but I can’t remember the last time I had some.

Well, none. Unless there’s going to be a market for an ‘83 Corolla liftback replica.

These are my bread and butter. Should lady luck strike in the career department, In order of how much I want them:
caterham 7
lister bell str
Factory Five type 65
I love the idea of kit cars and the short answer to which replicas I want: all of them.

If I wouldn’t have millions, but only couple of hundred thousand euros, I could buy a Bugatti replica by Pur Sang. You have to be a Bugatti expert to separate it from a genuine thing.
